Résumé
This study examines the geopolitical dimensions of energy competition in the South China Sea and analyses its role in shaping strategic rivalry in the contemporary international system. The significance of the topic stems from the region's strategic position as a major maritime route for global trade and energy transportation, as well as its considerable oil and natural gas resources.
The study addresses the following question: How has energy competition transformed the South China Sea into a central arena of geopolitical and strategic rivalry? To answer this question, the research adopts the geopolitical approach, supported by the descriptive-analytical method and the case study method.
The findings indicate that the geopolitical importance of the South China Sea is not based solely on its energy resources, but also on its strategic location and its vital role in global energy security and maritime trade. The study further demonstrates that energy competition has intensified rivalry among regional and international actors, particularly China and the United States, while opportunities for cooperation continue to exist through regional and international legal and institutional frameworks.
